Three and a half months of maternity leave have flown by. I want to discuss the oxymoron that is maternity leave on another occasion, but there’s no doubt that life becomes more intense with every addition to the family. Alma, on the other hand, is calm and serene. She seems to know how to live in the moment, and I try to enjoy every moment with her and also relax. For example, in the bathroom…
So my day starts a bit earlier and is full of juggling between the older one, the younger one, the business, and my partner. Every evening in the bath, I reflect on what I managed to do today and what I plan to do tomorrow. Those fifteen minutes to myself are my reset for the next day.
I’ve always had a weakness for bathrooms. In every apartment I’ve rented, in every hotel room I’ve visited, it’s the first thing I check. Is it pleasant, clean, and luxurious enough? In my clients’ projects, bathrooms are important and receive significant attention in design and budget.
In this apartment, a plumbing issue forced my clients to replace the existing system and remove all the flooring. When I came to see the bathrooms, I thought the potential of the master unit was quite limited. What can be done in a triangular space with impossible dimensions? Sometimes, pressure and constraints bring out the best in us.
We debated whether it was worth combining the children’s bathroom and the guest toilet and concluded that in this case, the loss would outweigh the gain. We opened the bathroom to the utility balcony, and although all the functions remained in place, the space feels more spacious. Notice the gold mirror—after searching all the stores for a mirror of exactly this size at a reasonable price, I bought one with my clients at [IKEA](https://ikea.co.il/), and they painted the frame gold. What a perfect IKEA hack!
Since the guest toilet is adjacent to the bathroom, it was decided to use different flooring from the same ceramic series to maintain a uniform look for that area.
What is your reset during the day, and which area in your home helps you relax? Write to me, I’d love to read!
